FloSports
Principal Engineer 2026 -
Staff Engineer 2025 - 2026
Senior Software Engineer II 2022 - 2025
FloSports is a live sports streaming platform with 100,000+ events per year across 20+ sports. I've worked across product and platform teams on web and mobile backends, data infrastructure, developer tooling, and AI platform.
The role has grown from full-stack feature delivery into technical leadership, building internal platforms, and leading AI adoption across engineering.
Principal Engineer
- Built the AI development platform used across engineering: MCP gateway and servers for internal API access, agent skill collection for development workflows, and a CLI that installs and configures it all
- Leading AI adoption in Product & Engineering: documentation, workshops, mentoring, and a Terraform-managed Datadog dashboard tracking adoption metrics
- Built Momentum, an engineering velocity dashboard tracking PR analytics, cycle times, collaboration networks, and AI adoption trends across the org
- Built BRPlease, replacing FigJam-based PI planning with a real-time board app synced to Jira, with AI chat and automatic risk assessment
Staff Engineer
- Prepared the largest monorepo for AI-assisted development: encoded standards in repo documentation, built context-efficient validation, packaged review workflows and operational skills, and sharpened observability as agent working context
- Finalist for Impact Player of the Year (top 5 of ~500 employees); awarded to those who best exemplify all 6 company core values
"Michael is a true force multiplier in Engineering, always thinking about how to improve efficiency and processes—not just for himself, but for his team and adjacent teams. His contributions to critical initiatives like the NextGen mobile API, Flo360, and BFF platforms have delivered measurable impact, while his proactive suggestions and leadership have improved operations wherever he works. By setting the pace, raising the bar, and modeling how to operate effectively, Michael elevates both business outcomes and the performance of those around him."
- Authored canonical log line library (nestjs-request-log-context) implementing wide event logging with request-scoped context and configurable sampling; rolled out across services, reducing annual Datadog spend by six figures while improving observability
- Helped ship the next-gen wrestling web and mobile app, focused on the BFF but owning backend stability, performance, and quality across the board; built the backend to be sport-agnostic, supporting all 25+ FloSports properties, not just wrestling. Mobile app reached #1 in its category in the App Store
Senior Software Engineer II
- Tech Lead on Flo360, a serverless ELT platform that consolidates sports data from multiple providers into a unified API
- Kept the Flo360 team moving (scoping, sequencing, unblocking) without stepping back from code. Introduced ADRs to the team, a practice that spread org-wide. Owned all Datadog observability for the project and the monorepo tooling and CI/CD
- Owned feature delivery end-to-end across web and mobile: server-driven UI navigation, subscription flows, automated event results pages, and A/B experiments. Built features client-agnostic so they worked across both web and mobile apps
- Built Angular UI features and NestJS BFF services for subscription flows and experiments, with Segment and Mixpanel instrumentation and close collaboration with design in Figma
