My home lab is both a learning playground and a stable development environment with backup power. As a full-time remote worker, it’s reassuring to know I won’t let my team down due to power issues.

Here’s a quick rundown. Some of the actual hardware and software is listed in tools

Network Rack

Router/Access Point: Manages traffic and keeps data flow smooth and secure. Provides wifi to the whole house.

Switch: Connects all my wired devices. I wire everything that doesn’t move.

NAS: Runs various services via Docker and stores files.

Raspberry Pi: Running Home Assistant OS. I could switch it to the main server but it’s working fine as is.

Battery PSU

Keeps my network running during power outages and fluctuations, ensuring my sessions stay intact.

Office Setup

Monitors: Dual screens for my workspaces. Wouldn’t mind a third but my work laptop only supports two.

Desktop: Heavy-duty machine, now mostly replaced by my company laptop. Both are hooked to the same peripherals via a KVM switch.

Scanner and Printer: For when I need to deal with physical copies.

Generator

A 20kw generator automatically kicks in during prolonged power outages, with the battery PSU bridging the gap until it powers up.
